Demystifying SEO Language

Our comprehensive glossary is your key to unraveling the world of SEO terminology, making it accessible and understandable for beginners and experts alike.

Off-page SEO

Off-page SEO is a key part of an SEO strategy (alongisde on-page SEO and technical SEO) and refers to all the aspects of SEO that take place outside your website. The main aspect of this is link building (getting authoritative sources to link to your website),but it also includes tactics such as content marketing, PR, social media, and brand building. These tactics can increase your pages' relevance, authority, and trust in the eyes of search engines like Google.

On-page SEO

On-page SEO refers to optimising the content of a web page to improve user expeirence, help search engines understand your website, and rank more highly in search engine results pages. It focuses on optimising content, headings, and metadata around the keywords you want your page to rank highly on search engines for. Alongside off-page SEO and technical SEO, it is one of the most important aspects of SEO. On-page SEO is sometimes also referred to as on-site SEO.

Organic Traffic

Organic traffic, also known as free traffic, refers to the visitors who arrive at your website from the organic listings on a search engine results page. The users who click on a search ad (paid listing) to come to your website are referred to as paid traffic. A successful SEO strategy can increase the organic traffic to your website.

Outbound Link

Outbound links are links on your website that point to other websites. These are also sometimes referred to as external links. Outbound links in your content are useful because they signal your authority and research to your readers, allowing them to follow the links to find your sources and additional information. Relevant outbound links are also useful for SEO because they help search engines better understand the content of your site by adding topic signals. However, irrelevant outbound links can be detrimental, so we recommend avoiding them.
