Glossary of terms

In SEO, you are sure to come up against lots of abbreviations, jargon, and technical terms. As this can be overwhelming for those new to the practice, we have put together a glossary to keep you up to date.

Demystifying SEO Language

Our comprehensive glossary is your key to unraveling the world of SEO terminology, making it accessible and understandable for beginners and experts alike.

PA (Page Authority)

PA (Page Authority) is the score out of 100 that indicates where a page is likely to rank on the search engine results page (SERP). The higher the score, the easier it is for a page to rank highly. It is made up of threee parts: how recently the page was updated, how trustworthy the page is (including high quality content), and how relevant the links on the page are. To improve page authority, you can update pages more frequently and build quality links. // Side note: page authority is different to domain authority, which measures the authority of the entire domain or subdomain.

Page Content

Page content refers to all the information in a website, including text, images, audio, video, and links.

Page Speed

Page speed refers to how quickly a single page loads. It is different to site speed, which means the average loading speed of a sample of the pages on your website. Page speed is impacted by many factors including the page filesize, how compressed the images are, and the site's server. It's important for SEO because page speed is a key ranking factor.

Paid Listing

Paid listings, also known as search ads, PPC ads, or sponsored results, are the advertisements that appear on the search engine results page. To display these paid listings, people and businesses bid on keywords. The adverts that have the highest bids will be shown when somebody searches for those keywords. They tend to appear above or on the right hand side of the organic adverts.

People Also Ask

People Also Ask (PAA) provides other searches that are related to your search query. It's a rich snippet that appears on the search engine results page. 43% of search results pages now feature a PAA and answers are given beneath each query with their web page source. PAA boxes can appear in any position on the results page, not just in the first or second rankings.
